The PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) is a third-cycle academic degree (EQF level 8) awarded upon completion of a doctoral programme. It is primarily based on an advanced individual research project, carried out independently by each candidate under the supervision of at least one designated academic tutor (Supervisor). In addition to research activities, the programme may also include participation in seminars or specialized disciplinary courses.
Progression from one academic year to the next is subject to a positive evaluation by the Academic Board of each PhD course, based on the PhD student’s research and study activities carried out during the year.

Duration: 3 years
Objective: To provide the skills and expertise required to conduct high-level research within universities, public or private research institutions, and advanced professional contexts.
Admission requirements: Master’s Degree, Single-cycle Master’s Degree, or a foreign academic qualification recognized as equivalent. Admission is also subject to passing a public selection process.
Academic title awarded: PhD (Doctor of Philosophy, Dottore di Ricerca in Italian)
