L’Università di Cassino e del Lazio Meridionale, dopo una impegnativa competizione con altre blasonate università, entra nella rete europea EUT+ (European University of Technology), un’Alleanza di 8 atenei di altrettanti Paesi dell’Unione Europea (Francia, Germania, Spagna, Irlanda, Bulgaria, Romania, Lettonia e Cipro).

Le Alleanze, di cui fanno parte solo pochissime medie e piccole università italiane e straniere, rappresentano reti universitarie transnazionali che condividono le strategie formative e promuovono i valori e l’identità dell’Europa.

Gli studenti che dal prossimo anno si iscriveranno all’Università di Cassino e del Lazio Meridionale potranno quindi accedere ad un campus capace di rispondere alle nuove esigenze delle imprese e delle istituzioni europee

Questo eccellente risultato è stato ottenuto soprattutto grazie alle competenze e alle energie investite da tutte le componenti dell’Ateneo, a partire dal Centro per i Rapporti Internazionali. È un risultato che riconosce la qualità a la capacità progettuale di Unicas, prima per crescita internazionale e quarta in Italia per percentuale di studenti stranieri.

Il successo è anche il frutto della capacità di lavorare in sinergia come sistema territoriale. Tutti gli stakeholders, il tessuto produttivo, economico e imprenditoriale, le associazioni di categoria e le amministrazioni locali (tra cui i Comuni di Cassino, Frosinone e Gaeta, la Provincia di Frosinone e la Regione Lazio) hanno sostenuto con entusiasmo il progetto.

Lo scopo dell'iniziativa non è solo quello di rafforzare la mobilità degli studenti, dei docenti e del personale universitario, ma soprattutto di promuovere la competitività dell'istruzione superiore europea, la qualità dell’offerta formativa e della ricerca, nonché i valori dell'inclusività e della sostenibilità.

In altre parole le Alleanze europee possono essere considerate dei veri e propri "campus inter-universitari” in cui studenti, dottorandi, personale tecnico-amministrativo, docenti e ricercatori possono muoversi all’interno della rete mettendo in comune gli strumenti e le infrastrutture nonché le rispettive competenze, risorse umane ed economiche, per elaborare progetti formativi multidisciplinari e innovativi.

Rispetto ai semplici progetti Erasmus, i programmi di studio delle Alleanze sono: a) più coerenti con gli obiettivi formativi del corso di studi scelto dallo studente, prevedendo periodi di mobilità strutturati e non occasionali; b) più flessibili, consentendo agli studenti di personalizzare maggiormente il loro percorso; c) più professionalizzanti, permettendo di ottenere un titolo internazionale direttamente spendibile in diversi paesi europei fino a conseguire una vera e propria laurea europea.

EUT+, che ha l’ambizione di diventare una vera e propria unione di nove università europee, è estremamente qualificata per formare studenti e cittadini europei ispirandosi a 3 principi: a) la tecnologia non come fine ma come motore del progresso umano che abbina alla formazione scientifica quella delle scienze umane e sociali; b) l’approccio transdisciplinare alle discipline universitarie; c) il valore dell’inclusività, dell’accoglienza e del multilinguismo.

The University of Cassino and Southern Lazio (UNICAS) is now officially a member of The European Universities, a flagship initiative of the European strategy for universities, that sets the ambition to support 60 European Universities who fully embody the vision of Europe, which would involve more than 500 higher education institutions by mid-2024.

With its long-term vision to merge eight (now expanding to nine) member universities from all European geographical regions and become a single entity with a single governance and a joint budget, EUt+ takes a pioneering position among European Universities as a forerunner of a model of deep institutional transformation of the European higher education landscape. “There is an urgent need for bold action in tackling global challenges, where technology will play a pivotal role; the European University of Technology will be a reference for policymakers and help drive European strategy towards common and evidence-based solutions to global problems” declared the eight Rectors who have chosen UNICAS to face the challenge of this second phase.

On the same vein, Timothée Toury, Secretary general of the Alliance who recalled that EUt+ “is carrying a strong vision, based on our first 3 years of experience in development and organization, a vision that was clearly recognised by the experts, who awarded EUt+ the astounding score of 96/100 for its proposal to the 2023 European Universities Initiative call.” UNICAS will officially join the European University of Technology Alliance (EUt+) on 1 November 2023, date marking the beginning of the 4-year deployment phase of EUt+. “UNICAS shares the mission and vision on the highest level and meets the vast majority of the criteria set out by the Alliance for the integration of the ninth member” Professor Toury added, highlighting that UNICAS convinced the EUt+ Rectors in particular for its expertise in the European education and research area and its ability to manage large numbers of incoming and outgoing students while demonstrating its full endorsement of the EUt+ Mission Statement, its commitment to a merger process, and the support of its internal and external stakeholders for this process as well as its willingness to make the necessary changes and reforms.

With now 9 members in 9 countries, which host in total more than 100 000 students in 1 single European university, the European University of Technology has a strong vision to share and UNICAS is proud of being part of it. The vision and mission of EUt+ are underpinned by the pivotal role that technology plays in forging an inclusive and sustainable future: humanity today faces challenges of unprecedented breadth such as climate change, overused resources and the social consequences of the digital era. Answers to these challenges necessarily involve technology but need to be multi-faceted. They must consider the needs and aspirations of people and of our environment, they must be respectful of individual freedom and diversity.

This can only be achieved by empowering technologically responsible citizens, and researchers who fully comprehend the potential of technology as well as the risks of neglecting its purpose. This requires a fundamentally new approach to technology and the training of people to foster it. It requires a new model of university.

UNICAS will make all its potential available to EUt+ in preparing the future of Europe by building a pioneering institutional model for developing a radically human-centered model of technology.
