Agreement on Legal Entity and Advisory board

09/07/2026 - The Rectors’ Board of the EUt+ met at the Technological University of Dublin. The meeting marked an important step in the continued development of the Alliance

On 2 July 2026, the Rectors’ Board of the European University of Technology Alliance (EUt+) met at the Technological University of Dublin. The meeting marked an important step in the continued development of EUt+, with formal decisions focused on the long-term consolidation of the Alliance, its legal capacity, and the representation of its wider community

A legal status for the Alliance

The Rectors formally approved the next step towards establishing a legal entity for EUt+. This decision allows the Alliance to move forward with joint activities and shared representation on behalf of its members. The legal entity will be designed, in a first stage, as a light structure dedicated to supporting a limited set of common actions, joint activities, and shared representation. Its scope may then evolve step by step, shaped by the Alliance’s development and the needs.

By approving this legal status, the Rectors have taken a formal governance decision that gives EUt+ a clearer capacity to act collectively. The future legal entity will not replace the members or centralise their responsibilities; rather, it will provide a practical and stable framework for actions that require a common legal footing, such as supporting joint initiatives and managing shared resources where appropriate. This marks an important step in moving EUt+ from a cooperation framework towards a more structured and operational European alliance.

An Advisory Board to represent the wider EUt+ community

Fulfilling a founding commitment of EUt+, the Rectors also approved the creation of an Advisory Board representing the wider internal community of the Alliance.

The Advisory Board will bring together representatives of the main internal groups of interest within EUt+: academic staff, technical and administrative staff, and students. Its purpose will be to give staff and students across the member institutions a structured channel to help shape the future direction of EUt+. It will provide a structured channel for the voices of those who are not yet directly involved in the daily development of EUt+, but who will be increasingly affected by the Alliance’s transformation.

Through this body, staff and students will be able to express their views on the results, priorities, and future development of EUt+ at the highest level of the Alliance. The Advisory Board is therefore intended to strengthen participation, transparency, and shared ownership across the EUt+ community.

From consensus building to unanimous agreement

The decisions taken by the Rectors’ Board followed a six-month process of meetings, exchanges, and Delphi-based consultations driven by the Secretariat general. This process made it possible to bring together different institutional perspectives, to look for a consensus and to progressively build a common position.

The unanimous agreement reached by the Rectors reflects a growing maturity in the governance of the Alliance. It shows the capacity of EUt+ to consider, at the same time, the ambition of its long-term objectives, the practical realities of implementation, and the need for constructive dialogue between its members.

This result also demonstrates a shared willingness to build the Alliance through mutual understanding, progressive alignment, and collective decision-making.

In brief

The Rectors’ Board meeting in Dublin led to two important decisions for EUt+ reached by unanimous agreement: the formal approval of the next step towards creating a legal entity for the Alliance, and the creation of an Advisory Board representing the wider community of staff and students across member institutions. Together, these decisions support the long-term consolidation of EUt+, while maintaining a pragmatic, inclusive, and gradual approach to its development.
