The University of Cassino and Southern Lazio (Unicas) provides its students with a high-quality educational experience.
Among the institution's strengths is, first and foremost, its strategic geographical location. Unicas is situated in Cassino, a significant center in Southern Lazio, serving as a crucial junction and link between Lazio, Campania, Molise, and Abruzzo. Frosinone hosts some Economics and Engineering courses. Rome and Naples can be reached in under two hours. The Angevin Castle of Gaeta, our educational and representative site, hosts summer and PhD schools, as well as international and national conference activities.

Students at the Forefront

The university boasts an extensive network of collaborations with businesses, local authorities, and communities, solidified over time to foster the technological transfer process, support entrepreneurship, and promote culture throughout its area of influence. Students actively participate in this process through company internships, events, collaboration in research projects, and fieldwork. The #StudentiUnicas are central to the sustainable development pursued by the university and tangibly contribute to shaping their own future.

The Campus and Academic Offerings

The academic offerings for 2024/2025 are extensive, encompassing 15 Bachelor's Degree programs – with the addition of a Psychology program from the next academic year –, 22 Master's Degree programs, and 2 Single-Cycle Degree programs, distributed across 5 Departments: Economics and Law, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Humanities and Philosophy, and Human, Social, and Health Sciences. Notably, 9 programs are delivered in English to facilitate graduates' future engagement with global realities. Everything revolves around a state-of-the-art campus, a true incubator of knowledge, frequented daily by over 2,000 students. The campus is set in green surroundings and equipped with spacious classrooms, recreational and sports areas, laboratories, and all the most modern facilities to foster quality learning. The University Committee for Sustainable Development (CASe) supports the entire academic journey through initiatives and publications on the circular economy, virtuous lifestyles, and the valorization of environmental resources.

The Value of Inclusivity

UNICAS is inclusive and supportive. Through CUDIR (the University Center for Disability, Inclusion, and Research), the university supports students with disabilities; peer tutoring (including online) provides administrative, academic, and research support to reduce dropout rates. The Center adapts examination methods, also with the Reasy app, promotes cultural and sports initiatives, organizes research projects on inclusion, supports international mobility, and offers a psychological counseling service, extended to all UNICAS locations. It also provides study and socialization spaces, such as the CUDIRLab, facilitating classroom accessibility. A dedicated accompaniment and transportation service for university activities is also active. Finally, the center offers career guidance.

Excellence in Research and Teaching

Teaching excellence is underpinned by the quality of research. Seven percent of Unicas faculty members are ranked in the top 2% of researchers worldwide, according to the Stanford University classification. This prestigious recognition is based on the scientific impact of researchers, assessed through parameters such as the number of publications, citations received, and the impact of their work within the international academic community. The production of new knowledge is reflected in a consolidated applied research activity, developed with the support of over fifty laboratories operating in various technical-scientific and cultural fields, as well as in an extensive network of relationships with local authorities and national and international stakeholders. The intense and productive technological transfer activity is evidenced by the stipulation of numerous research agreements and framework agreements, revenue from third-party contracts, patent filings, and the activity of spin-off companies established and participated in by university personnel.

The Artificial Intelligence Revolution

The university pays particular attention to teaching innovation; the entire educational ecosystem has been redesigned in light of the latest instrumental acquisitions that artificial intelligence offers to optimize the relationship between digital technology, pedagogical models, and cognitive processes. In this direction, laboratories and advanced training courses have been established which, through collaboration with technology companies and internationally renowned keynote speakers, offer technical support and training so that artificial intelligence is not merely an uncritical adoption of tools but becomes an educational, scientific research, and pedagogical opportunity to design university education according to principles of adaptability, equity, and effectiveness. The idea of technology pursued is not limited to simply enhancing existing practices but rather embraces an ecological vision in which AI applications also become an amplifier of the didactic relationship.

UNICAS TAKES YOU TO EUROPE

Open to the World and Ready to Welcome It

Unicas is a university with a strong local vocation and a broad international dimension. Internationalization is supported by the University Language Center of Cassino (CLA-C) through the promotion and development of foreign language skills and the provision of Italian courses for international students. The Center offers in-person exercises that can be integrated with self-learning paths through an online platform available to all enrolled students. At the CLA-C, students can also undertake internships and participate in various language tandem projects, including within the universities belonging to the EUT+ European alliance.

An International University

Internationalization finds its maximum expression in the academic offerings delivered in English: 3 Bachelor's Degree programs and 6 Master's Degree programs. Furthermore, there are 10 Dual Degree agreements stipulated with leading international universities and a Master's Degree program jointly designed (Joint Master Degree) by Unicas, the University of Girona (Spain), and the University of Burgundy (France). The Censis 2024 report confirmed Unicas's position among the top Italian universities in terms of international dimension: approximately 20% of enrolled students come from over 80 countries worldwide. The same report highlighted the quality of the Bachelor's Degree programs in Economics delivered in English, which in the last three years have consistently ranked among the top positions compared to other state universities surveyed. The Engineering programs also excel.

European Degree with EUt+

Confirming an ever-increasing international vocation, Unicas has been a partner university of the European University of Technology (EUt+), a recognized and funded European alliance by the European Commission, since 2023. The EUt+ partners cover eight important university cities: Cartagena (Spain), Troyes (France), Darmstadt (Germany), Dublin (Ireland), Riga (Latvia), Sofia (Bulgaria), Cluj-Napoca (Romania), and Limassol (Cyprus). #StudentiUnicas can obtain credits at any of the alliance's locations with automatic recognition within their study program. The goal is to issue a European Diploma, the guidelines for which were published by the EC in March 2024. The network of contacts of the 9 universities is also available to students for internship and job placement experiences, a circumstance unimaginable in a purely national context. The EUT+ alliance has already begun the establishment of European research institutes and doctoral schools that allow young graduates to embark more easily on an academic career. Faculty and graduates contribute effectively to the technological transfer process carried out by EUT+ towards companies in the European territories of reference, contributing to the competitiveness of the European production fabric.

NOT JUST THE CAMPUS

Towards the World of Work

And after graduation? The Career Service-Job Placement office supports students and graduates in career guidance and planning, offering Career Education services. Through orientation seminars, meetings with companies, and initiatives aimed at fostering the meeting between supply and demand, the office helps students and graduates enter the world of work and promotes the development of entrepreneurship by providing the essential mindset and tools to transform innovative ideas into concrete projects. The needs of local businesses are met with training courses aimed at developing soft skills. The acquired skills are certified with open badges on the CINECA Bestr platform.

Sport and Leisure

Inclusivity and a sense of belonging to university life are also developed through sports. For this reason, the university provides a wide range of sports facilities and services managed by the University Sports Center (CUS Cassino), which promotes a healthy and active lifestyle involving students, faculty, and technical-administrative staff. The large campus gym offers fitness courses, and outdoor facilities allow for the practice of paddle tennis, tennis, and five-a-side football. Agreements with external organizations allow access to the sports hall, swimming pool, and athletics track, expanding the possibilities for practicing sports and facilitating the organization of events of international relevance. On these occasions, students have the opportunity to participate as athletes, volunteers, or interns, acquiring valuable skills for their human and professional development.

Accommodation

The well-being of students, both national and international, is particularly cared for. In this direction, the university has recently enhanced the quality and quantity of university housing. Through public-private collaborations, new projects have been developed with a sustainable approach: from university residences managed by DiSCoLazio (the regional body for the right to study and the promotion of knowledge) with approximately 400 beds, to the acquisition of additional facilities in the historic center, Janula Residence; these housing solutions represent a fundamental resource for off-site students. The facilities are also open to incoming students on temporary mobility programs.

A Connected University

All university services and activities are supported by the IT and communication system managed by the University Center for IT Services (CASI). The center deals with aspects related to the local and geographical network, connections to the Garr/Internet/Eduroam network, the management of servers hosting web services, support, design, and installation of particularly relevant IT equipment. The Center manages the email service, the Microsoft and Google G-Suite platforms, which include e-learning products, and also provides the computational and storage resources of the server farm to users, such as website hosting, dedicated servers, special projects, integrated authentication and security systems (LDAP/Radius). CASI also manages the University WebTV, with lessons and videos on its YouTube channels, as well as the WebRadio, which publishes podcasts on the UnicasOnCast channel, thus facilitating a permanent and interactive relationship with the university through the creation of a true community, supported by intense activity carried out through institutional social media channels that complements the irreplaceable richness of the in-person experience.
