From the Academic Year 2025/2026 thesis requirement and marking have changed. The article 8 of the regulation, which describe the final thesis is reported below.
The degree is awarded upon passing a final examination, which carries 5 CFU (ECTS-equivalent credits), aimed at verifying the achievement of the degree course's educational objectives. The final examination consists of the written preparation of a short dissertation, carried out under the supervision of one or more professors teaching in the degree course, on a topic consistent with the educational objectives of the degree course. As a rule, the dissertation deals with topics covered in a subject that the student has included in their study plan, and may consist of a theoretical or applied work. The dissertation may be written in either Italian or English. For the Economics and Business curriculum, the dissertation must be written exclusively in English.
The topic to be addressed in the dissertation for the final examination must be agreed upon during the third year, and in any case not before the student has obtained 120 CFU out of the total 180 required for obtaining the degree. The student must submit the relevant request through the University's GOMP online services, which must then be accepted by the supervisor, also through the GOMP services. This request must be submitted at least 3 months before the scheduled date of the thesis discussion.
The final evaluation of the aforementioned dissertation is carried out by a dedicated Committee, whose formation procedure and size are defined in accordance with the provisions of the University's Teaching Regulations. The discussion of the dissertation therefore takes place before this committee, and the degree is conferred following the proclamation.
The final score is awarded as follows:
- duration of studies: 3 points for completion within 3 years (or on schedule); 1 point for completion in 4 years;
- experience abroad: 1 point for those who took part in study experiences abroad as part of international exchange programs;
- final examination: up to 4 points for the dissertation and its discussion.
The number of graduation sessions and their distribution throughout the academic year are decided annually by the CdD (Degree Course Council), and all related information is published on the department's website.
