Basic healthcare coverage is provided by the Italian National Health Service (SSN) during stays in another EU country via the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). However, this coverage may not be sufficient, especially in cases of repatriation, specific medical procedures, or international mobility outside the EU. In such cases, supplementary private health insurance may be required.
Non-Italian citizens are strongly advised to register with the National Health Service (SSN) or to take out private health insurance.
Third-party liability and personal accident insurance policies cover damages caused by or to the participant during their stay abroad. As insurance regulations vary by country, standard coverages might not be sufficient—for instance, if the participant is not considered an employee or formally enrolled at the receiving institution. Additionally, insurance coverage against loss or theft of documents, travel tickets, and luggage is recommended.
The University of Cassino and Southern Lazio (UNICAS), in agreement with AON, offers its students the AON Student Insurance policy (https://www.aonstudentinsurance.com/en/home/), designed to provide coverage for students traveling abroad.
